| Hi
ALL, Max did have his second surgery and has a full recovery. I haven't seen Max in a while now but I know that the 2nd surgery was performed at Care Animal Hospital. I thank everyone that helped Max get these surgerys so he can have a good life. God bless you all! It has been a very long time since I had a chance to update this page. Max continues to do good at his new home. I am waiting for some new pictures to share with you. Max will be having that second surgery on the better knee in the spring of 2007. I will update this page as soon as I get some new pictures of Max with his new home and the other female Rottie he is now living with. I hope to get this posted soon. Update 7-10-06 Max moved into his new home on July 2nd, Yippie!!!!! I am told that he shares his new bed with the female Rottie of the house. When the new owner came to pick Max up, Max ran into the van and was ready to go. I am so happy that he has a new home and that he is happy there. His new owner wants to meet me and get a feel for the training that Max has had through Loving Paws. I can't wait to meet them and hopefully the other Rottie. He had a bit of a problem with the leg. A couple weeks ago he started gnawing at the incision until it broke open. The drainage that came out was looking a bit wicked so Max's previous owners took him into the Healing Oasis to see Dr. Rivera. His leg is now healing up wonderfully but he is still restricted to certain activity until July 27th. He will be exercised daily but under the restrictions until released to full activity. Max's previous owner will be setting up an appointment for the new owner to meet with Dr. Rivera. The new owners are open to the holistic approach and would like to have Dr. Rivera do the second knee at the Healing Oasis. There is $900 left in the fund and it should cover the complete cost. I will let everyone know when the second knee will be done. I will also get some new pictures of Max to post on this page. Our prayers are answered and it is because of all of you. Again I and Max's families thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and generosity. God Bless !!! Update 6-12-06 I visited Max on Friday of last week. He was in good spirits and has been using the leg slightly which is not uncommon after only two weeks out of surgery. He should be able to walk on the leg fully in a couple more weeks. His current owner purchased a new collar, leash and a few toys for him for his homecoming. He loves the new bed but will only use it when his leg isn't real sore. The stitches were taken out last Thursday. The incision is healing but there will be a scar. I hated to leave him, he was so happy to see me. I will try to get out to visit him again soon. Update 6-2-06 Max had surgery on May 26th. I haven't had a chance to visit with our friend, I hope to see him next week. It sounds as though the knee was in pretty bad shape and he was in pain after the surgery. He was sent home with pain medication. I will have more details for everyone next week. Below are a couple pictures of him after the surgery. ![]() ![]() Update 5-16-06 Max's owner found Max a wonderful new home. It is too good to be true! Max will be living with another Rottie, female of course. Max enjoys his new owners and his new home. The new owners are currently working on the purchase of a home so Max will be able to join them in July. Max's current family will have the worse knee done while Max is waiting for his new home. He will be going to Fox Lake Animal Hospital on May 26th for his leg. I will update you on his progress as time goes by. Max also has a new bed ($85.00) that was purchased from the donations from Gerrie F. Holmes of Winthrop Harbor, Linda Zanot from Kenosha, Sylvia Nudi from Winthrop Harbor, Laura Yurchak from Kenosha and money from toys sold by Jennifer Lueck. The bed has double sided, medical grade 8" thick egg crate foam with a fleece top. The cover is removable for machine washing. I hope Max enjoys his new bed especially during rehab. There were also donations made to Johnson Bank but I do not know who made those donations. A $2.00 donation was made on 3-30-06, a $20.00 donation was made on 4-11-06 and a $50 donation was made on 4-25-06. The fund currently has $2107.35 in it. Update 5-3-06 Max's owner is working with a person that is interested in taking Max into their home. This person is suppose to take Max for a while this week to see how they get along. This is the best lead we have had so far. Max is ready for the surgery. Max's current owner is talking about getting the surgery done before Max would go into his new home. I hope to have more information for you early next week. Please say a prayer for Max, he needs all of the help he can get. Update 4-11-06 ![]() I wanted to get this posted much sooner than today and I am sorry to those of you that have been checking on Max through this web page. On 4-4-06 I made a deposit into Max's Medical Fund at Johnson bank of $1935.55. There was a large jar kept by the check out at Felicia's Restaurant in Kenosha which added $113.55 to the money donated before and at the fund raiser event. I started the account at Johnson bank with $100 so I know that we have at least $2035.55 in the bank for Max's surgical needs. I will update you on any other donations made when the bank statement is sent out. Now is the time sensitive task of finding Max a new home. I talked with a member of the Medallion Rottweiller Club last week. She is going to help by putting Max on their website. I have a phone call and e-mail message into the Wisconsin Rottweiler Rescue and into another source up in Menomonee Falls. I pray that one of these contacts can help find Max the home he needs. I couldn't help but think about him while I was out of town this past weekend. I can feel him calling to me for help and I feel as though there must be more that I can do. I will keep you all updated as new information becomes available. I want to thank everyone that has helped me in this quest. I know I won't remember everyone that helped and or came to the fund raiser but I am going to try to take a stab at listing those I do remember. Please let me know if I forgot anyone. | Update
4-3-06 I am sorry it took so long to post this update. I worked all day yesterday and just had a break between clients today to put this on the web. I am eternally greatful to all of the wonderful people who gave donations before the fund raiser and those that came to the fund raiser on Saturday afternoon. Although we didn't have as many people as we had hoped for those that attended were extremely gracious. I am going to try to list everyone I remember seeing and those that left a check in the next update. If there is anyone that needs a receipt for your donation please e-mail me with your name and address. The total money donated to Max's medical fund so far totals $1873.00. This includes the initial $100 put into the bank to open the account, the checks and cash given to me before the fund raiser and the money donated at the fund raiser on Saturday afternoon. I do know that one other person has a check on the way. I will see if anyone has sent a donation to the bank when I make the deposit tomorrow. I have had a few people including the Rottie Rescue lady that is helping us find Max a new home say that the Fox Lake Animal Hospital has a veterinarian that has done the surgery that Max needs with great success. We think that the money currently in the fund may be enough for Max to get both knees done. The rescue wants the new owners to handle Max's surgery since recoup and rehab will be to hard to do in his current home. The success of a surgery includes the recoup and rehab that follows. We want this surgery to be a great success for Max. I will post a new update tomorrow. Thank you to all of the wonderful dog lovers out there that has helped raise this money for Max. I can't wait to see him after the first knee is healed. I will then be able to rejoice! |
| Update:
3-30-06 There was an error on the fliers that where
distributed for the Max Fund Raiser. We are not
charging for the food, we will be asking for donations. |
| Update:
3-30-06 I have contacted everyone that has donated time, food and items toward the fund raiser with the following information. In Max's and the current owners best interest we are actively working on finding a good home for Max. The message below was sent or I have personally contacted those that have helped Max so far. Please see the message below: <>Max and his family are in a real tough situation right now. Max currently lives with a 6 year old little girl that he is very uncomfortable around. The mother of the house discussed the situation with a couple people that work with Rotties. Both people told her that she needs to re-home Max for the welfare of her 6 yr old daughter. Once a mother has doubts about their child's safety the dogs life changes. Max's every move will be analyzed, whether it is innocent or not. This puts a lot of stress on both the family and on Max. Max's pain will be worse after the surgery. When a dog is in severe pain they may defend themselves with their mouth. Max needs to be with someone that will be able to help him through his rehab and not have to worry about the small children in the family. Max’s family and I don't feel as though this is possible in his current home. Although Max's owner, an 11 yr old girl named Alex, loves Max she also wants to do what is best for him. The stress level in the home is escalating and we need to get Max in a home that can care for him without being under this additional stress A friend of mine has contacted some Rottie savvy people in Illinois and they also agree that we need to find him a good home. They have contacts that we will be talking with in the next couple days. They are good people that are concerned for the welfare of the dog. This is the only way I could think of to get the information to you. All of the money, every penny, from the fund raiser will follow Max to his new home. I will make sure that the money collected in this fund will go for Max's medical needs. After all, this fund is to help Max get the surgery he needs. With that in mind we also need to address his mental and environmental needs. Thank you |
